CLIPPERS-SPURS

Rested Spurs win Game 1 over weary Clippers 108-92

SAN ANTONIO (AP) ? Tim Duncan had 26 points and 10 rebounds and the San Antonio Spurs, recharged after a weeklong layoff, wore down the busy Los Angeles Clippers to win Game 1 of their Western Conference semifinals series, 108-92 on Tuesday night.

Playing for the sixth time in 11 days, the Clippers gave San Antonio its toughest first half of the playoffs before fading fast. And unlike their stunning Game 1 comeback at Memphis in the first round, they didn't have the wind this time.

Manu Ginobili added 22 points for the Spurs, who've won 15 in a row. It's the longest winning streak sustained in the NBA playoffs since the 2004 Spurs won 17 straight.

Eric Bledsoe led the Clippers with 23 points.

Game 2 is Thursday night.

MAVERICKS-CARLISLE

Mavericks, Carlisle agree on new contract

DALLAS (AP) ? Coach Rick Carlisle has agreed to a new contract with the Dallas Mavericks.

The new deal Tuesday comes a year after Carlisle led the Mavericks to their only NBA championship. Terms were not disclosed.

Carlisle just completed the final season of his initial four-year contract with Dallas. The Mavericks made the playoffs for the 12th consecutive season, but were swept in the first round of the playoffs by Oklahoma City.

Carlisle has a 198-114 regular season record in Dallas. He is 479-325 overall as a head coach with Detroit, Indiana and Dallas.

ROYALS-RANGERS

Royals win second straight over Rangers, 7-4

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) ? Mike Moustakas homered, Billy Butler and Brayan Pena each drove in a pair of runs and the Kansas City Royals kept Texas' potent offense in check for a second straight game in a 7-4 win over the Rangers on Tuesday night.

The Royals took advantage of two throwing errors by Rangers starter Colby Lewis (3-3) to score five unearned runs in the first two innings.

Moustakas reached base for a 22nd consecutive game to help make a winner of Vin Mazzaro, who made his first start this season. Mazzaro allowed three runs on seven hits in five innings. He struck out two and walked one.

Reliever Tim Collins struck out five of the six batters he faced in the sixth and seventh innings for the Royals, who swept the two-game series and handed Lewis his third loss in May.

ASTROS-PHILLIES

Pence's homer in 10th lifts Phillies over Astros

PHILADELPHIA (AP) ? Hunter Pence atoned for a ninth-inning error by hitting his second home run of the game, a solo shot in the 10th that lifted the Philadelphia Phillies over the Houston Astros 4-3 Tuesday.

Pence connected off former Philadelphia closer Brett Myers (0-1) with one out to give the Phillies their first three-game winning streak of the season.

Pence's bobble in right field while trying to make a throw home allowed Houston to tie it with two outs in the ninth.

Chad Qualls failed to hold a 3-1 lead in the ninth and kept Cliff Lee winless in five starts this season.

Lee allowed one run and struck out 10 over eight strong innings. Jake Diekman tossed 1 1-3 scoreless innings to win his major league debut.

STILLWATER, Okla. (AP) ? Ryan Behmanesh hit a tie-breaking home run to help lead Dallas Baptist to a 7-4 victory over Oklahoma State in a non-conference game in Dallas.

The Patriots (37-16) were leading 4-2 when the Cowboys (32-20) rallied in the sixth on Mark Ginther's two-run single Tuesday.

After Behmanesh's homer, Kenny Hatcher added an RBI to move Dallas Baptist ahead 6-4 and the Patriots got its final run off Joel Hutter's RBI in the seventh.

Portland's Jack Jewsbury left at halftime with a possible hip injury.
